Description
Ideal For: Students ages 11+ who wish to explore painting in greater depth, build strong foundational skills, and prepare for portfolio submission in Fine Arts or Studio Arts programs.
What They Learn:
This course blends classical techniques with modern artistic expression to strengthen students’ observation, structure, color understanding, and emotional articulation through paint. It builds a solid foundation for advanced fine art study and creative development.
Skills Developed:
- Structured training in both sketching and oil painting
- Mastery of light, shadow, and layering techniques
- Use of color to convey mood and atmosphere
- Thematic exploration in still life, portrait, and landscape painting
- Techniques for large-scale canvas work
- Portfolio building and critique for fine arts applications
Example Activities:
- Step-by-step oil painting from reference photos and real objects
- Monochrome sketching for tonal studies
- Layered oil glazing techniques
- Portraiture exercises focusing on emotion and realism
- Experimental textures with brushes and palette knives
- Final project: professional-style oil painting with artist’s statement
Goal:
To deepen students’ visual language, technical skill, and conceptual thinking through the medium of oil. Students will be equipped not only to express themselves artistically, but also to meet the academic and creative standards of fine arts institutions.
